Swiss Ambassador on visit

rs. We recently also had the visit of the Swiss Ambassador in Kenya, Georges Martin and his wife. They were surprised how clean and well organized our hospital is ... and they even helped to give out the food for the refugees!

Cleaning our tents

rs. Today we cleaned the tents on our camp ground and Wakomo brought his old sewing machine to fix the damaged parts. We also have to furnish the metal parts to protect them from rust. It will probably take us another 2 weeks until everything is finished.

Medical team on the road

rs. For many the journey to the hospital is too long, so we decided to go on the road with our medical team and went to the Elementaita Camp, where we could give medicine to the needy. It was a tough job in brooding temperatures, but the people were very grateful.

People are standing in line to get their medicine from our medical team (click on the picture to see it full size)

Successful visit of Amanda Ammann

rs. The team of the Rhein-Valley Hospital was proud that Ex-Miss Switzerland Amanda Ammann visited our place and could witness what is being done daily. She also helped us while she was here and took care of some young patients (see picture). Yesterday there was also a report on this visit in the Swiss weekly magazine "Schweizer Illustrierte" as well as in today's issue of the daily paper "20minuten".

Difficult times

rs. We have several difficulties here. Often power, internet and the provider are not functioning, so regular news are no more possible for the moment. Last weekend, our doctor Wanjara was very busy. Many people have diarrhoea. We also fear that malaria can break out again. The weather is dry and hot and the poeple often have to walk for miles to get some water, and often it is polluted.
